Superfood is a non-medical term popularized by health enthusiasts referring to a product which has a high content of antioxidants, vitamins, and other nutrients. Foods being linked to this are broccoli, bananas, walnuts, spinach, soy, and the like. And there are many health advantages associated with both.

But today, we will go on the top-listed superfoods: Moringa and Kale. Let’s dig deeper into which is better for your superfood.

Is Kale a Superfood?

Yes it is.

It is a leafy green vegetable related to Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts and Cauliflower. You must have seen and tasted these in salads or soups.  It normally grows in Europe and the United States, especially in North America. It is a versatile  product, you can eat this as raw, boiled, steamed, or add it to your milkshakes and smoothies.

Kale is widely known for its wide array of nutritional content including vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin B6, protein, iron, fiber, and is also known for its phytonutrients and carotenoids that are said to boost the immune system, fight off cancer and other diseases.

Is MORINGA a Superfood?

Yes it is - an I say it is at the top of the food chain - but I am getting ahead of myself.

Grown in the Philippines as well as other countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal, Moringa is known as having an impressive nutritional profile. It is usually used in teas, pasta sauces, soups, salads, and curries. Additionally, you can make Moringa into a powder and add it to your variety of dishes.

Moringa’s nutritional profile competes with Kale. It contains many healthy compounds such as vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin C. As well as calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, and zinc. Unlike kale, moringa also contains flavonoids that have been studied for fighting off heart disease and many more. Also, moringa has been cited as a source of protein with all nine essential amino acids in it and it is known to have 35 powerful anti-inflammatory compounds.

While it is not a slam dunk looking at the chart, moringa has 2x protein, almost 3x the iron, and 6x vitamin B6 as kale. It is also higher in calcium which makes it essential for healthy bones and teeth. On the other hand, kale is a slightly better source of vitamin C, vitamin A, & potassium. But moringa contains more than 3x higher levels of iron than kale.

Overall, kale & moringa are both incredibly nutritious and beneficial to your health. Kale is certainly the more popular option, but moringa, backed with scientific studies, has more nutritional content and benefits than kale and really deserves to be the top superfood. There is plenty of research and studies to back up the facts as stated above and are covered in some of our other articles.

To sum up, both moringa and kale have loaded nutritional benefits. But, we will give the winning favor to moringa for being the heavyweight champion of superfood.
