WHAT IS DIABETES?
It is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin for energy and instead stores up in your system, which results in build-up sugars in your blood. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar.
There are 3 types of diabetes. These are:

- Gestational diabetes - it is hyperglycemia with the glucose that is above the normal level but inferior to those of diagnostic diabetes. Women are prone to this, especially during pregnancy.

WHAT IS MORINGA OLEIFERA
Moringa Oleifera is a native nutritional plant usually grown in countries like India, the Philippines, and other tropical climates. It has been traditionally used as a medicine for bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. As well as inflammation, skin and hair problems, plus many more. This plant is often referred to as a miracle tree because of its healthy benefits used for hundreds of years now. Moringa benefits for health are really profound.
Studies have shown that it is considered to be one of the most nutritionally dense plants today. Because of its antioxidants and bioactive compounds, it is known as an aid to treating and preventing diseases such as diabetic blood sugar. Moringa leaves (or as a powdered form) are the most common forms used for health benefits including heart disease.
Research Studies - A Scientific look at moringa oleifera and lower blood sugar.
In 2014 a research group looking at the effects of moringa seeds and how it acted on diabetic rats found that the antioxidant properties of moringa seed extract improved their fasting glucose level and lipid profile.[Ref]
A further study in the Asian Journal of Plant Science and Research reported that the moringa pod extract, when partnered with prescription medication, decreased the insulin resistance and also improved glucose tolerance in diabetic rats. Also, further secondary benefits were observed, such as reduced body weight. The researcher's theory is that these results are related to the presence of flavonoids, a known beneficial compound present throughout the moringa plant which improves glycemic control.[Ref] Another noted benefit was these molecules also increase the healing rate.
A specific flavonoid named quercetin, which is present in moringa has also been found show that it can reduce high cholesterol rodent studies.[Ref]
Further, an additional chemical compound called chlorogenic acid, is thought to be responsible for moringa’s anti-diabetic properties. Chlorogenic acid is known to assist in the glucose metabolism rate by lowering the glycemic response and thereby helping to keep blood sugar levels steady.
Moringa leaves are rich in many key molecules and organic compounds and another is isothiocyanates. In another study, these were observed to reduce insulin resistance while increasing insulin sensitivity.[Ref]
Another research paper noted moringa’s antidiabetic effects and probed the levels of moringa leaf powder given to diabetic rats. The researchers found results consistent with other positive scientific studies. Namely better blood sugar levels and insulin tolerance. The writers said they thought there is some benefit to taking moringa as a powder to get these beneficial results. [Ref]
It is thought that moringa powder is more concentrated and delivers better results than when it is heated and possibly destroying or at least partly inhibition some of the bioactive chemical compounds present in unadulterated moringa. e.g compared to a cooked moringa.
