Moringa over hundreds of years has gained a reputation as a superfood and has had many documented benefits.

It is most well known in preventing and curing many ailments and diseases.

Does Moringa Help Sexually?

There have been a number of research studies - on the benefits for men and sexual benefits.

What does moringa or ben oil help with

May help erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined as the inability to get or  to keep an erection that’s firm enough for sex. This is often a result of a blood flow problem.

Moringa helps because it contains plant compounds called polyphenols, which are reported to enhance blood flow by increasing nitric oxide production and also decreasing blood pressure.

Another report also demonstrated that moringa seed extract helped to relax a muscle in the penis of healthy rats.  This then allowed for more blood flow to the area. [Ref].

I have been unable to find a similar study on humans - so there is no direct evidence that it will function the same way.

moringa health benefit men

Fertility Improvement:

Men with sperm mobility is amongst  the most common causes [Ref] of infertility.

Thankfully Moringa leaves and seeds are known as excellent sources of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are known to  help fight oxidative damage to cells. If you can prevent oxidative damage to cells that will help with the sperm cells also.

Rabbits are known for their sexually active life - hence the saying “ breeds like rabbits” - Studies in rabbits have indicated that leaf powder from the ben or moringa tree significantly improved semen volume and sperm count.[Ref].

In addition research in rats have further shown that the antioxidant properties of moringa leaf extract significantly increased sperm count.[Ref].

However, as encouraging as these studies are studies in humans are necessary before conclusions can be drawn on the effectiveness of moringa for healing sexual health in males.

Moringa leaves and seeds have a high concentration of  antioxidants These have been shown to neutralize sperm-damaging oxidative stress in other mammals. Studies in humans are necessary to confirm these findings.

Improve blood sugar control:

When your body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t efficiently use it then you may suffer from Type 2 diabetes.

Insulin is a hormone produced by your pancreas that lowers blood sugar levels after eating.

Again working with mice and rats with diabetes it has been shown that extracts from moringa leaves and seeds may lower blood sugar levels increasing insulin production and/or the uptake of sugar into cells [Ref].

The good thing here is one study in a small number of healthy adults demonstrated that taking 4 grams of moringa leaf powder increased insulin secretion. It did not significantly show any affect blood sugar levels [Ref].

Researchers in another study also found that the moringa supplement reduced the post-eating blood sugar increase in those with diabetes. [Ref].

This blood control then relates back increase health and blood wellbeing and sexual drive.

Support prostate health:

Moringa seeds and leaves are rich in sulfur-containing compounds called glucosinolates, which may have anticancer properties [Ref].

Studies done in the laboratory have demonstrated that the glucosinolates from the plant’s seeds may inhibit the growth of human prostate cancer cells [Ref].

It’s also possible  that moringa could help prevent benign enlargement of the prostate in men as they get older.  This can make it difficult to urinate[Ref].

Support Healthy Testosterone Levels:

Another study also reported that moringa decreased testosterone levels in the treated mice.  In humans, low testosterone levels can reduce sex drive and erectile function, [Ref].

Again more studies would be necessary to establish this in humans. But the moringa leaves and seeds are certainly rich in glucosinolates.  These in turn are why the plant has  beneficial effects on prostate health in rodents.

While research shows some real benefits for moringa the next step is for researchers to see if the same sexual health benefits could occur in humans.
